The Council Of Dealers

Earlier this year Kumbatia formed The Council of Dealers, a governing body composed of three dealers and one fisher from each of the communities that Kumbatia collaborates with in Lamu County. The primary objective of the Council is to unite stakeholders from each of the communities to ensure fair market pricing, address conflict resolution, improve sourcing efficiencies and discuss how to improve the sustainability of the industry across the county.

A Chairman, Vice-chairperson, Secretary, Training and Quality Lead, and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Lead have been appointed to head the council, represented by an individual across all the communities.

We have already hosted three Council meetings to provide comprehensive training, onboarding, and implementation of the Council's objectives. The initiative has proven successful so far, with many members citing its strong benefits in learning new sourcing strategies from different communities, and from enabling communities to voice their needs, promoting effective communication with Kumbatia and other program members.

At Kumbatia, we are committed to building deeper connections with the communities we work with, and through the establishment of the Council, we demonstrate our dedication to recognizing the community as an essential stakeholder.
