Simple Life Partnership

Artisanally sourced seafood from East Africa demands extensive operational logistics and expertise, starting within the communities and extending to buyers regionally and overseas to offer a world-class product.

Kumbatia manages remote village logistics, training, quality assurance, our off-grid cold chain, and ensuring traceability and sustainability compliance throughout. To effectively fulfill the downstream responsibilities of our supply chain and achieve our scaling targets, Kumbatia entered a regionally unique and strategic partnership with Simple Life Processing and Services. This partnership, kicked off in October 2023 after our CEO Will Gertler and Simple Life’s CEO Abdikhadar Farah met at a World Wildlife Fund conference in Nairobi, was formed under the same vision of accelerating the regional sustainable seafood economy.

Since partnering, Simple Life’s EU and FDA-certified facility and internal processing, food safety, documentation, and logistics expertise have transformed and accelerated Kumbatia’s ability to deliver world-class East African products. Their state-of-the-art facility hosts a daily capacity of 15 metric tons for fish processing, 5 metric tons for ice production, and 60 metric tons of frozen product storage, with skilled staff specializing in product quality management and packaging to ensure the utmost quality for our domestic and exported products.

We are excited to continue expanding our market reach and provide greater opportunities alongside Simple Life for our local artisanal fishers. This partnership will play a crucial role in achieving our long-term goals and driving sustainable development in the East African seafood industry.
